*Together is Fun*

No sitting around! Come join “Together is Fun” beginning Tuesday, September 12 at 4:00. This program welcomes youth kindergarten through 6th to enjoy a time of fellowship and fun through game or craft activity. Our programs are held the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month. So don’t miss out – join the fun!

*Storytime and Toddler Tales*

The fall story session will begin Wednesday, September 13 for children ages 2 through 5. Toddler Tales welcomes children ages 2 and 3 and begins at 10:00, followed by Storytime at 11:00 for children ages 4 and 5. Both sessions feature story-related fingerplays and a take home activity. Join us each Wednesday for fun and fellowship! Don’t miss out!

Summer Reading

Summer Reading is winding down, however we have one more week of activities to offer!

Tuesday, July 11 – “Lunch at Friendship Park” – 12:00 – Bring a sack lunch and listen and or participate in stories – All Ages

Wednesday, July12 – “Toddler Friends” – 10:30 – Story and related fingerplays and take home activity – Ages 2 & 3 – “Let Your Kindness Shine” – 2:00 – Participants will make cards, banners etc. for community workers, nursing home residents and others – All Ages

Thursday, July 13 – “Music Makers” – 1030 – Participants will make kazoos and jingle sticks – PS – 3rd grade – “Giving to Others” – 2:00 – Participants will help make a no – sew blanket to be donated to the CASA organization – 4th – 6th grade. (This program is a continuation – we have supplies to finish another blanket for CASA.)

It’s StoryWalk Week!

Monday, June 26 through Saturday, July 1 – “The StoryWalk (R) Project” at Legion Park. The StoryWalk (R) Project was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, VT and developed in collaboration with the Kellogg-Hubbard Library. StoryWalk (R) is a registered service mark owned by Ms. Ferguson. This program will set up a story on platforms throughout Legion Park in which participants can enjoy the outdoors and enjoy a book by going from platform to platform. (This program will run from Monday, June 26 through 5:00 Saturday, July 1 beginning at the Shelter House in Legion Park. For the entire family, enjoy at your leisure.)

Wednesday, June 21 – “Toddler Friends” – 10:30 – Story and related fingerplays and take home activity – Ages 2 & 3 (Re-scheduled date for Chalk Around the Block with Kindness – 11:15)“Let Your Kindness Shine” – 2:00 – Participants will make cards of appreciation, banners, etc. for community workers, nursing home residents and others – All Ages.

Thursday, June 22 – “MUSIC FROM AROUND THE WORLD” – WITH DAVID MARSH – 10:30 – David Marsh will present and play a variety of instruments from around the world – All Ages. “Giving to Others” – 2:00 – Participants will help make a no-sew blanket(s) to be donated to the CASA organization – 4th – 6th Grade.

Thursday, June 15 – “Chalk Around the Block with Kindness” – 10:30 – Using chalk to write positive or kind words on the sidewalks around the library and city offices – All Ages – (Alternate date – June 21)

Summer Reading 2023 – theme – “All Together Now” – (Emphasizing friendship, kindness and unity) – begins Saturday, June 3.

SATURDAY, JUNE 3 – “ALL TOGETHER NOW” BEGINS – FUN DAY begins at 9:00 through 11:00. Sign up also, for the “Pen Pals” program. The Chadron Public Library and the Sidney Public Library will be working together to promote a Pen Pals program. Children with similar interests will be paired together in hopes that through writing, life-long friendships will develop. The Teen and Adult reading programs also begin Saturday, June 3. (Sign up for the reading program and the Pen Pals will be through June if you are unable to attend.)

  • Dairy Queen will be hosting a fundraiser for the FOSPL.  Steph and Sandy will have the Bookmobile there for people to see.
    • April 29 will be Haiku-Tai Chi at 1-2:30. 
    • Adopt-a-pot sign-up will be held from 9-1 on April 29.  Seeds will be available and you have the whole month of May to plant your adopted pot. 
    • April 23-29th is National Library week. 

Approval of Minutes:  A motion was made by Steve to approve the minutes of the March 13, 2023 meeting.  The motion was seconded by Shannon.

Financial Reports and Bills:  A motion was made by Shannon to approve the Bills for March 2023.  The motion was seconded by Tanya.

Old Business:

  • April 29th is the official opening of the Seed Library. 
  • April 29 will be the Plant and Seed exchange hosted by the Federated Garden Clubs and Cheyenne County Extension office, UNL from 9am to 1pm.
  • Amanda and Eileen attended the STEAM program at North Elementary.  The 3-D printer and the VR were on display.
  • Amanda and the Free Speech will be doing the Reddit AMA with Sidney Mayor Brad Sherman.  It will be broadcast over Facebook, TikTok and Reddit.  There will be a moderator to assist.

New Business:

  • A motion was made by Jen to change the InterLibrary Loan fee from $3.00 to $4.00 due to postage rate increases.  The motion was seconded by Steve.

  • Eileen was at the Community Center from 4-6 on April 3 for the Kids Summer Sign-up and handed out information about the Summer Reading Program.
  • Julie reported on the Bookmobile use.  The Bookmobile is 28 years old and is having issues.  Patronage is up 116% from June 2021. Julie goes to surrounding Schools in Cheyenne County Preschools and daycare facilities in Sidney.  Homebound service is becoming very popular. 
  • The Friday Friends will be going to Dairy Queen on April 14 to watch a demonstration on how cakes are decorated.  They will also decorate a cupcake.
  • The Board requested that Amanda contact Dave Porter to assist in resolving some computer issues and to get the printer in the Bookmobile up and running.

A motion was made by Tanya to go into closed session for Personnel matters at 4:48pm. The motion was seconded by Steven.
