National Library Week

What draws people to the Library? Everything! From books and digital resources to job assistance and creative programming, libraries are essential to thriving communities.
National Library Week, April 6-12, 2025, is a time to celebrate the many ways libraries bring people together, spark imagination, and support lifelong learning.
At the Sidney Public Library, we invite the community to join the celebration! Whether you’re a longtime patron or haven’t visited in a while, now is the perfect time to explore all the Library has to offer. Our Library provides not only books, graphic novels, and books on CD, but also, computer access for all, free WiFi, numerous free databases, including the Libby program, virtual reality headsets/games, storytime and programs for youth, summer/winter reading programs and a great MakerSpace. The Library provides a digital collection of The Sidney Telegraph and Sidney Sun-Telegraph dating from 1875-current. All of this ensures that everyone has access to resources that educate, inspire and connect.

Join us for National Library Week! Cookies, provided by our wonderful Friends of the Library group, will be available each day.

Monday, April 7: Right to Read Day–a day for readers, advocates, and library lovers to take action to protect, defend, and celebrate the right to read.

Tuesday, April 8: National Library Workers Day–a day for library staff, users, administrators, and Friends groups to recognize the valuable contributions made by all library workers.

Wednesday, April 9 (2-5 pm): National Library Outreach Day–Stop by the Library this afternoon and visit with Heather, our Bookmobile Librarian. Tour the current bookmobile and learn how Heather is meeting our patrons needs as the Outreach Specialist, whether that means driving to local/nearby schools and villages, daycares, community center, assisted living center or even a nursing home.

Thursday, April 10: Take Action for Libraries Day–a day to rally advocates to support libraries. Come by the Library today and bring the kids and grandkids! “The Great Book Character Hunt” (Library scavenger hunt) will be taking place all day…for youth Kindergarten-6th Grade.
